Lake District Foundation makes a splash at the Great North Swim

The Lake District Foundation joined thousands of swimmers, supporters and visitors at this year’s Great North Swim, taking part in a brilliant weekend on the shores of Windermere. 

Members of the Foundation team took to the water themselves and helped raise more than £1,000 to support its work across the Lake District. The event also gave the team the chance to meet people from across the country and talk about the projects and partnerships helping to protect the area. 

Many visitors stopped by to ask questions about Windermere, including the challenges facing the lake and the ongoing work around water quality. The team enjoyed chatting to swimmers, local residents and visitors, answering questions and sharing more about how different organisations are working together through Love Windermere. 

The Foundation also brought along its second-hand outdoor clothing swap, giving people the chance to pick up pre-loved kit and help reduce waste. It proved a popular addition to the weekend and helped start plenty of conversations about sustainability and the small changes people can make when enjoying the outdoors. 

The weekend was made even more memorable when the team featured on ITV Border News, helping to shine a light on the Foundation’s work and the importance of caring for Windermere. 

It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate one of the UK’s biggest open-water swimming events while connecting with the people who care deeply about the future of the lake.
