110 ‘citizen scientists’ took part in the latest Big Windermere Survey, the largest ever citizen science survey examining the water quality of Windermere on Sunday (13th August.)

Such was the popularity of the survey that a standby list of volunteers was created by organisers and Love Windermere partners, the Freshwater Biological Association.

As well as samples taken from the lake shores, volunteers also paddled out onto the lake to take temperature readings and collect water from a variety of locations.

When a full year of data has been analysed later this year scientists will be able to draw conclusions about the health of the lake to help partners identify issues and prioritise action to tackle them.

The results of earlier surveys can be seen on the Freshwater Biological Association website https://www.fba.org.uk/volunteer/the-big-windermere-survey
