Upgrading Windermere’s water network this January
A project to upgrade clean water mains in Windermere is getting underway this month. United Utilities is investing around £500,000 to upgrade just over 1.1km of water pipes along a section of Lake Road.
New more durable and flexible pipework will improve the reliability of the drinking water network by helping minimise the risk of bursts and leaks. A technique called ‘slip-lining’ will be used as much as possible, where a new pipeline is inserted into the existing water main to minimise the need for digging large trenches and road closures.
The project begins on 12th January and is expected to take up to 12 weeks to complete. Work will be carried out along a section of Lake Road between St Herbert’s Church and the junction with Beresford Road.
For further information, you can head to the United Utilities Information Centre (8 Crescent Road, LA23 1EA), open Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm.
Ambleside water quality improvements
Work is now mobilising at Ambleside wastewater treatment works, where treatment standards will get a further upgrade, further reducing phosphorus, and where extra stormwater storage tanks are planned. While work is ongoing, a new route has been agreed for the popular parkrun, which uses Miller Field, so that it can continue to take place. More improvements are happening across the Windermere area as part of a £200m upgrade, and updates will follow in future editions.
