15 October 2025
The Environment Agency Chair, Alan Lovell, recently met with Nigel Wilkinson MBE, Independent Chair of the Love Windermere Partnership, to discuss a strengthened commitment to drive environmental action for Lake Windermere.
The Love Windermere Partnership brings together nine organisations, including the Environment Agency, to address the complex challenges facing Windermere. From improving water quality and biodiversity to supporting sustainable tourism and community engagement, the partnership focuses on long-term, integrated solutions and is already seeing some positive results.
During the visit, discussions focused on addressing the environmental pressures facing the lake as well as keeping momentum going in tackling pollution sources, restoring natural habitats, and ensuring sustainable practices across the catchment area. The visit included tours of key sites and conversations about engaging communities, businesses, and visitors in protecting the lake for future generations.
Nigel Wilkinson MBE said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome the Chair of the Environment Agency to Windermere and to share how the partnership is driving action on the ground. Strengthening our relationship with national agencies is vital if we are to deliver meaningful change. The Environment Agency plays a key role in our collective efforts, and this visit reaffirmed our shared commitment to improving the health of the lake.”
Alan Lovell, Chair of the Environment Agency added:
“The Environment Agency takes its responsibility to protect the environment very seriously and we are absolutely committed to improving the water quality in Lake Windermere.
“We are proud to be part of the Love Windermere Partnership, working across organisational boundaries and with local communities who care so passionately. Together, we can make a big difference and drive the environmental improvements we need and want to see.”
