Festive swimmers took advantage of the litter pick station at Rayrigg to carry out a clean-up before enjoying a bracing dip in Windermere.

Members of the Mental Health Swims community on the lake took part in the litter pick using equipment supplied by the Lake District Foundation.

The swimming group is part of a national network at 150 locations that promotes the activity as a way of showing support to boost wellbeing.

“The clean-up equipment is made from recycled plastic bags and the station will be at Rayrigg until Christmas,” Steve Tonkin from the Lake District Foundation said. This weekend the Blue Mind Men swimming group will also be using the kit to clean up the shoreline but anyone around Windermere can make use of it.

“The mobile equipment is freely available to anyone who’s organising an event – just get in touch and we’ll bring the equipment to you,” Steve added.
